Cabinet Accessories & Hardware

Sometimes it may seem that a room in a home needs to be entirely renovated or resurfaced in order to give it the extra oomph it needs. It is easy to grow tired of an interior space because it has looked bland or similar for too long. Though it may seem like a complete remodel of the entire kitchen or space is the only way to make it look new again, there are other ways to breathe new life into the space. One way to change the look of a kitchen, bathroom or any room with cabinetry, is to change out the existing hardware on the cabinets or to resurface the cabinets. A simple change in kitchen cabinet accessories and hardware can give the kitchen a revamped look without actually renovating the entire space.

The color and type of kitchen accessories and hardware that are used on the cabinets can really change the look of the entire kitchen. For example, a kitchen may have previously been faced with light wood cabinets and stainless steel cabinet accessories like stainless steel hinges and stainless steel drawer pulls. The entire look of the kitchen can be changed if the wood is then stained to a dark brown wood stain and the cabinet accessories like the hinges and drawer pulls are changed to a shining gold metallic.

If the kitchen cabinets have already had hardware and hinges installed in them before, one of the most efficient ways to switch to new kitchen hardware is to find hardware that has the same size screws so that no additional drilling has to be done. It may be difficult to find hinges that match up exactly to the previous hole sizes in the cabinets, but the cabinet pulls or handles should be easier to work with. Sometimes the hole will be in the right place but the size of the hole needs to be expanded to fit the kitchen hardware. In this case it is usually better to take all of the cabinetry off before any holes are drilled. Taking off the cabinetry will keep the mess under control and it will be easier to work with the drill and the cabinet hardware while the cabinet is not hanging off of the wall. Once the new hole is drilled, the new kitchen hardware can be attached to the cabinet and the cabinets can be put back up on the wall. Even though there is some work involved with taking down the cabinets, replacing the hardware and putting them back up again is a much easier task than cutting, painting and staining an entirely new cabinet system to achieve a different stylistic view.

It is not just the outer appearance of the kitchen cabinet accessories and hardware that make all of the noticeable differences in the kitchen. If you have the type of cabinets that always seem to pop open after they have been shut because they have become loose in the cabinet frames, there are a few types of kitchen cabinet systems that have a magnetic system to close them so they have some extra pull and they stay shut once they are shut.
