Tricking out your home audio system doesn’t need to be all new-fangled technology and hi-fi this or flat panel plasma action that. No ma’am it does not. Especially if you are a true, pure-hearted audiophile. Chances are you already have, or are right this very second currently thinking about, putting together a glorious collection of vinyl. If you’re like me, then you want the best possible fidelity when you sit down to enjoy your music. And truth be told, that doesn’t always mean that digital quality yields the best sound.
So why not break down, spend a hundred or so bucks, and pick up a tuned up turntable, classic-style, and bring not only excellent and true analog fidelity back into your stereo system, but also kick up the vintage style a notch in your domicile, and have a cool looking piece of equipment around the house too?! Having a record player in the house, and the secret here is the older the better, ends up being a real conversation starter when you throw your dinner parties or put together a holiday gathering for your friends or work mates. Nothing brings out compatriots in music-loving quite like a great old piece of equipment, and a marvelous collection of smooth sounds from decades past.
Make sure that you purchase from a store that has the unit plugged in — this way, you can throw a record on the turntable and hear the sound of it, which will guarantee that it looks good and actually works, as well. If you have a local record store or a couple of vintage shops that carry more than furniture, chances are they’ll have a few complete vintage stereo systems already set up and sittin’ there ready to be blasted.
Once you’ve checked out the quality and functionality of the turntable, gauge just how much cleanup work will be required, and don’t forget the quality of the needle. Often times, this will need to be replaced, so make sure to factor that into your overall cost. Once you get it home, hook it up and give it a nice place among your stereo system where everyone can admire your new toy.
