Wallpaper

Wallpaper is useful for the decoration of walls of houses, commercial or any kind of buildings playing an important role in the interior decoration. Generally, wallpapers are available in the form of rolls in the market and they are pasted in the wall with the help of wallpaper paste. They are available in various designs ranging from plain wallpaper to designed wallpaper with graphic patterns. Various techniques are used for the printing of wallpaper including the gravure printing, surface printing, rotary printing and silk screen printing. Before attaching the wallpaper to the surface of the walls, the surfaces should be made proper. Also, wallpaper is not appropriate for all the places. It is advisable to use only specific type of wallpapers in bathrooms as normal wallpapers may get deteriorated very fast due to the large amount of steam. Wallpapers designed particularly for using in the bathrooms are available in the market. The walls should be properly prepared by repairing any damages in the surface of drywalls and eliminating any loose objects or used adhesive materials before the application of wallpapers. The dimensions of the room must be measured properly including its length, width and height and a perfect calculation of the windows and doors should be made for purchasing the right wallpaper. Majority of the wallpaper pastes are made with a base of starch or methylcellulose.

Wallpapers are available in the local home development shops in a wide variety of colors, prices, designs, patterns and with superior quality. The first usage of wallpapers occurred in the country China during the period of 200BC. In the year 1739, wallpapers were introduced in America by a printer of Philadelphia called as Plunket Fleeson.

Bathroom wallpapers are sold in the market in a wide variety of colors and designs. It is a better idea to cover one wall of a bathroom using wallpaper and leave the rest of the walls plain if the bathroom is small Self-adhesive wallpapers are available in the markets which are very easy to put in the walls. These kinds of wallpaper do not cause any mess and do not require a large amount of water. They just need to be wet using water at the back side of the wallpaper and then put it in the wall and allow it to dry completely. After putting the wallpapers in the wall, long interval must be given before fixing any accessories in the bathrooms like shelves or photos. To provide an attractive appearance to the bathroom ceilings, the wallpaper can be even attached to the ceiling portions. Faux style wallpaper is able provide the appearance of a marble and it is available in broad range of colors and designs matching the seams. The wallpaper can be attached on the back side of the cabinets if any book shelves are vanities are present in the room.

In bedroom, the wallpapers need not be used to cover all the portions of the bedroom. Similar to paint, it can also be attached in particular regions of the room to produce an accent looking wall. As most of the people come to bedrooms for relaxation, the colors of the wallpapers must be chosen in such a way that it provides a calm and peaceful state of mind. The most appropriate colors for bedroom wallpapers include light blue, light green, neutral color and earth tones.

The easy way of removing wallpaper is by brushing the wallpaper using water. When water is absorbed through the wallpaper, the wallpaper paste gets saturated thereby causing the wallpaper to peel off from the wall. However, this method cannot be applied to nonpeelable vinyl wallpapers as the vinyl is non porous in nature. The other method of removing wallpaper is to use a chemical wallpaper stripper available in majority of the paint and home development shops. It should be sprayed on the surface of the walls after mixing it with water or a solution of warm water plus vinegar. For the saturation of wallpapers, a wide variety of application methods are required. Perforation can be used to enhance the absorption process of the mixture leading to a rapid removal of wallpapers. After the mixture saturates the adhesive of wallpaper, the wallpapers can be detached from the walls by just pulling the corner sides using a drywall knife. The other most effective way to detach the wallpaper is to use the steam for saturating the adhesive of the wallpaper. The contents of a wallpaper steamer include water, electric heating substance and a hose for the application.

To clean the wallpaper, soft bristled brush can be gently rubbed on the wallpaper to remove the dirt particles of the wallpaper. A sponge can be immersed in a hot soapy water solution and can be used to clean the wallpaper by lightly scrubbing it. The final step is rinse the wallpaper with a clean sponge immersed in normal warm water and then the wallpapers should be dried using a clean towel.
