The DIY Outdoor Kitchen

Even though summer is officially over, that’s not stopping many people from enjoying the still-warm weather that’s going on across the country. By way of barbecues, picnics, or just a walk down the path with a loved one, we’re doing all we can to hang on to those last vestiges of sunshine. Well here’s another thing to add to the list: an outdoor, do-it-yourself kitchen, because really, who doesn’t like chopping and mincing outdoors?

Starting tomorrow and running through the 26th of September, the 2010 100% Design Festival in London will have the mobile kitchen on display courtesy of designer Nina Tolstrup and Studiomama. Visitors will be even get instructions on how to make their own, as well as handle the one on display to see how easy it is. Look for instructions to hit the web once the festivities are over this year.

Comprised of materials that you can buy at any hardware store, the mobile kitchen includes gas cooking, a bucket sink, a chopping board, and storage for crockery, utensils and food ingredients. In case you’re wondering about water, it’s provided by a garden hose connected to the kitchen, while waste water is collected by a watering can underneath the sink to be reused at a later time. The instructions will also come with various ways you can assemble the outdoor mobile kitchen to suit your own needs, and depending on your skill level and access to tools.

You’ll need to be a little confident in the workshop, or find someone who is, in order to build this spectacular DIY outdoor kitchen, as it’s constructed out of one-sheet plywood, broomsticks and screws, but if done right, the results will be superb.Imagine the look of surprise on your guests’ faces as you take them out on the patio to cook for them under the sun, no barbecue included.

This outdoor mobile kitchen is just one of the many DIY projects going on at 100% Design London show, which focuses on the best contemporary interior designs around. It features key manufacturers, star designers, and whether you’re looking for new ideas for yourself, or looking to contract work out for projects around the home, office or both, the 100% Design London show is sure to have something for everyone.
