While many of us dream of having large, walk-in closets that will hold every single stitch of clothing and all the accessories we own, it’s not exactly a dream that is always realized. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. I always think about turning one of the rooms in the house into a big closet, but my daughter always axes the idea. For some reason she doesn’t want to sleep on the couch. Imagine that? The good news is that after doing a little investigating, I discovered that having that dream closet doesn’t necessarily mean “big,” but rather “organized,” and here’s some ways that you can save space, time, and money, and still get the closet you’ve always wanted, even if you can’t dance around naked in it.
Dividers: Here’s a good one.
Try sticking a divider down the middle of your closet made of a simple piece of plywood. You can, of course, pain it, or decorate it any way you like, but having a divider will be crucial for some of the other tips I have for you. Not only that, but you can hand hooks on either side to put you jewelry or other accessories on.
Multi-Level Rods: These go hand-in-hand with the divider. On one side you can have various rods to hang stuff on. Pants, shirts, sweaters, whatever you like. Yous clothes don’t have to be all bunched together in one spot. Spread them out a little so you can see what you have. It will make getting dressed in the morning a heck of a lot of easier, trust me.
Shelving: On one side of the closet you have multi-level rods, so why not add some shelving to the other side? These can be used to store shoes, fold delicate clothing that you don’t want hung, or even to store some winter stuff instead of putting it all in a box and placing it in the attic. Want to get even more creative? Divide one or two of those shelves up into little drawers to store earrings, necklaces, or whatever you want. It’s a huge space saver and you’ll have a much easier time finding what you’re looking for.
Those are just a few tips for adding some space to a cramped closet. Like I said, the dream of having a big, walk-in closet is not one that is often realized unless you’re a fancy Hollywood celebrity. You, too, can have the space you need though. All it takes is a little ingenuity and some time, and before you know it, you’ll actually want to organize your closet more often. Who knew?
